Applying for Police Clearance Check (PCC) from Australia

If you are going through your Immigration process, there will be times when you need to apply for a PCC. In this blog, I will walk you through the process of applying for a Police Clearance Check (PCC) for India from Australia.

It’s a five-step process:

  1. Indian Embassy Application
  2. Personal Particulars form
  3. Photographs
  4. PCC checklist
  5. Decide on the Mode of application

Step 1: Indian Embassy Application

You will first need to complete an application on the Indian embassy website.

Select the country from which you are applying. In my case, it was Australia.

For New Users – Register

If this is your first time using it, you will need to register. While registering, remember to include the embassy/ consulate relevant to you.

  • In my case, it will be Australia – Melbourne

For returning users – Login.

Once logged in. Select and apply for a Police clearance certificate.

The application will ask you for the following details:

  • Your passport details
  • Purpose of the application
    • If you are applying for citizenship, select citizenship
    • If you are applying for other visas, select immigration purposes
      • Or choose according to your needs
  • Region/Country for which PCC is required: Select Australia
  • File number:
    • This is your Passport’s File Number
      • This can be found at the back of your passport
  • Applicant details (name, DOB, marital status, Voter ID/Aadhar, etc.)
    • Ensure to keep Aadhar number handy, it says if applicable, but prompts for it when you click next
      • Voter ID, Aadhar, and PAN card are optional
  • Family Details (mother/ father/ spouse name), that’s all they need, no other detail required.
  • Permanent Add in India, with a contact number
    • I gave my Australian number as I did not have an Indian number.
  • It will also ask you for your present address in the country of Domicile
    • This will be your Australian address.
  • Once you have filled and submitted this form, you must print it out.
    • You can do this from the dashboard
    • Click on the application, and it will give you the option to print the form.

Step 2: Personal Particular Forms

You can download the form HERE.

  • You need to download this form, fill it out, provide your card details( if applicable)  and sign.

While filling this out, here are a couple of clarifications around questions:

  1. 9a: Permanent Address in India: If your address has changed from the passport address, then write the new indian address. (Make sure to include a letter stating the new address and provide proof)
  2. 9b: This will be your Australian address (if you have not stayed at this address for 1 year, then you will have to provide previous addresses).

Step 3: Photographs

  • You will 2 photos – 2inch by 2inch photographs
  • I got mine clicked at Australia Post
  • When asked for what I just showed them the Indian embassy form and the dimensions required
